Port Arthur, oozing with interesting history

I find history so interesting. And this place is oozing with it..

It has a very sad history, but I guess all prisons do.

As I am going to Port Arthur very soon myself, it certainly is on my list. We have it all booked in fact.

Even the After Dark Ghost Tour for my husband and myself sounds terrific. We have that booked also.

I just know that when we get down there to Tassie and Port Arthur we are all going to have the best time ever.

Looking forward to coming back to this wonderful site and posting my trip details.

Karen's response:

Marea, I agree with you wholeheartedly about the appeal of Port Arthur and its history.

The After Dark Ghost Tour sounds fabulous! We certainly look forward to hearing more about it and about how you had the best time ever in Tassie.

I'm so glad that you are enjoying the site. And it's contributions like yours that really make this site worthwhile for me...

Port Arthur Night time Ghost Tour...
by: Marea Gray

Myself and my husband Robert went on the 9pm Ghost Tour. It was a very cold night, but that added to the atmosphere.

In our group I would say there were around 15 people, and Rob was asked to be the head Lantern Bearer... His job was to hold a lantern and guide the rest of the group along... Our guide was a funny guy, he kept us laughing along the way, with his sense of humour...

We walked all over the site, up hill and down dale. It was a workout to say the least, not so good if you're not fit or if you are elderly, and not good at walking up hills. If you fall into those two groups give it a miss.

We enjoyed the ghost stories told by our guide, and the whole atmosphere was creepy and spooky, it was a terrific night enjoyed by all...

Karen's response:

Marea, thank you so much for coming back here to share your experience of the Ghost Tour. How exciting that Rob was the head Lantern Bearer. I've not done this tour before and I certainly want to now! I'll just have to make sure I'm fit enough! But I know I'll enjoy the laughs and the scary thrills...
