What comes to mind when you think about a wooden boat festival? Lots of wooden boats? Sounds like it caters to a niche market, doesn't it?

I love going to events that I might not usually attend. It really does give you the chance to explore something different. Keep an open mind and you may be surprised to find that you not only enjoy the event but learn a few fascinating facts along the way.

You see, this event is not just about wooden boats. It celebrates Hobart's rich maritime heritage.

It is held once every two years. Stretching over 4 days, it all happens in Hobart's historic docks area.

What goes on? See if this take your fancy:

Wooden boats? Of course! But also on display are tall ships, historic replica boats and surf boats.

Watch model boats, classic boats, whale boats and surf boats as they take part in a little friendly racing. And I'm not just talking about actual boat racing. You can also see some boat-building racing - imagine that!

Marvel at the skills of shipwrights and boat-builders.
