Sydney to Hobart race enthusiasts understand this fever very well. In fact even if you are not an enthusiast, you would be aware of the fever taking hold of people you know.

Every Boxing day, just when it's time to relax after all that festive eating, we're on our feet eagerly anticipating the start of this famous race.

Even if you're only watching them on TV the yachts are a sight to behold at the start line in Sydney Harbour.

As the days pass you pick up snippets of how competitors are faring.

Eventually the list of potential winners starts to narrow down.

Then the victor is finally announced.

And the best part is - we all get to celebrate!

Constitution Dock, Hobart is the place to be, if you want to be among those welcoming the courageous crews after they have crossed the finish line.

This famous yacht race has not always been associated with great jubilation. In 1998, weather conditions were particularly severe, resulting in the tragic deaths of 6 people. We will always remember them as true champions of courage, spirit and adventure.
