A Tasmanian royal? Yes indeed!

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is also Mary Donaldson of Tasmania. She is the wife of Crown Prince Frederik, heir to the Danish throne.

Mary Donaldson was born and raised in Hobart in 1972. After graduating from the University of Tasmania, Mary moved to Melbourne. She worked for several Australian and global advertising agencies.

It was in Sydney, during the 2000 Summer Olympics that Mary met Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. They became engaged in October 2003. In May 2004, they married in Copenhagen Cathedral.

Since getting married, the royal couple have been blessed with 4 children. Christian Valdemar Henri John was born in October 2005. Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe was born in April 2007. In 2011, twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine joined the family.

Mary is patron to many organisations including:

  • Copenhagen International Fashion Fair
  • Children's Aid Foundation
  • Danish Association for Mental Health
  • Rare Disorders Denmark
  • The Danish Brain Injury Association
  • The Danish Heart Association
